Gary Bischoff who is seeking re-election to the Legislature has been fearless in taking on the power brokers who try to manipulate the political system. He is widely respected as an advocate for open government, fiscal responsibility and political accountability. Gary originally served as Legislator from January 1992 through December 1995, and January 2002 to December 2003, including one year as Minority Leader where he led the opposition to the building of a new county jail and forewarned about the exorbitant costs to the taxpayers and the need to be fiscally responsible.
Gary is currently chairman of the Laws & Rules Committee. The committee is responsible for all local laws and the rules of the legislature. The committee also has responsibility of policy for the Board of Elections and Ethics Board as well as interfacing with local governments. Gary was instrumental in finishing the work of the Charter Commission and getting approval of the legislature and voters in Ulster County. He also chaired the legislature's charter transision committee.
Gary earned a BS in Electronic Engineering and a Masters Degree in Computer Science.
Bischoff is owner and president of Electronic Control Concepts, a small, profitable, global, high technology manufacturing business specializing in instrumentation for x-rays and solar controllers.
Gary is running as a Democrat and is endorsed by the Working Families Party, SEIU (Service Employees International Union) and HVALF (Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation).
